Happy Howl o Ween

I hope everyone has a safe night. I always was fond of these opening theme songs for The Addams Family and The Munsters growing up. Enjoy!

Boo Friggen Hoo!

I used to watch with anger and indignation as a child when I watched the Redskins taunting and acting foolish whenever they won. The only thing worse than that were the Redskin fans. I dreaded a Redskins win because that meant I'd hear that God awful Hail to the Redskins song all day long the next day. Now the tables have turned. The Skins were utterly humiliated yesterday in Boston, losing to Tom Brady and the Patriots 52-7. Joe Gibbs, coach of the Redskins runs off the field after the game without meeting at the center of the field with the coach that finally turned the tables on him and embarrassed him in front of the world. Gibbs of course is a honorable guy and today conceded that it's not proper to whine and complain, but to focus on the next week. However.... Complaints started coming from Redskin players which has prompted me to post this complaining about the Patriots running up the score. I have one response to this band of sore losers. Take the humiliation. Find a li

Lazy Weekend

Image
Lazy was a pretty good word for the weekend. Janine did get off work early yesterday, so we got some lunch and got our hair cuts. You can see the haircut...kinda..in that pic. We got home and took it easy. Topaz took advantage of my lazyness and my warmth too. _________________________________ Today, as you can see, I started phase one of The Lewis Show redo. I brought back the three columns, got the widgets and the margins all lined up, and it's looking good. _________________________________ Now it's on to another week at work!

This IS Halloween!

Image
There's Christmas decorations everywhere..... We have not even hit the threshold of Halloween and already there are Christmas trees and wreaths and ornaments. We are barely 3 weeks into fall, we are barely a week into cooler weather, and already stores are looking to the biggest commercialized holiday...ever! I don't want to forget about the two holidays that come in between though, and by gosh I'm going to celebrate both and snarl at anything Christmassy. I'm not a grinch, but this is why everyone is so burned out when Christmas does arrive. It's shoved down our throats 2 months in advance now! At any rate, Halloween is next Wednesday, and while I may not dress up, I always get into the spirit by decorating the house. Janine loves this day way more than I do, so I get to sit back and enjoy her enjoying the holiday. I have pics to prove it. Happy Halloween everyone. For Pete's sake carve a pumpkin or something! The dining room table is very, very festive! Janine

Wow...

The images and video coming out of California have been unreal. I cannot imagine looking at a horizon red with the heat of fire and the blackness of thousands of acres burning. I feel for the people affected by this possibly preventable tragedy. I'm going to re post my link in my sidebar over the weekend for the Red Cross and I would ask that everyone that can help out to do so. __________________________________________________________ On a much more shallow note, I've been thinking and plotting my blogging strategy for the past couple weeks, and this weekend I'm going to roll out my new blogging platform. I'm also going to start working on a new home page. So fun and busy times are ahead. I know I've hinted at this for well over a year now, but I think it's time to make some changes to the sites. So stay tuned!

Randomly

I do this now and again. I open up a six pack of randomness! Yesterday was hectic, but fun. Janine and I got an early start with some breakfast, then we headed out to get groceries, after that we went back out to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D, helped out with the Lenscrafter's gift of sight program, and finally went to Janine's Moms house to have spaghetti for dinner and watch Dexter on the HD. Phew! Nightmare Before Christmas - Really pretty in 3D. If you're a big fan of the movie, you'll love it...it was my first time seeing it..ever! Dexter is fast becoming the most well put together drama on television. That's not the most qualified statement, though. I've seen about 3 television dramas in the past 4 years. The kittens are starting to get bigger and smarter which means they are becoming more evil. They can disassemble curtains, take the telephone off the receiver, disable a sub woofer, and dissect a garbage bag. They're still very cute lil&#

My Take on Tubes

Image
Being the avid Diggnation fan that I am, I'm always checking out their sponsors . They mentioned an app and a website called Tubes . I thought that was amusing since the ever tech saavy Senator Stevens (R-AK) called the Internet a serious of "tubes". So I went to check out the service and I even briefly mentioned it on my blog a while back. I was surprised to get a response from one of the spokespeople with tubes now and I promised I'd give a more detailed description and p lug for their service. I figured I owed them that much, mostly because I'm shocked that people even read my site, much less find value in the content! First I was amused by the name of the site. I thought it said "tube snow" dot com. Very cute. But once I got past my original amusement I downloaded their free application. Now I'm starting to sound like a spammer ...stick with me here. The site has good screen shots. The app looks like a small chat client that fits anywhere on

Home Remedies You Can Use

Image
Someone sent this to me at work....I had to pass along the humor. George thought they were funny: 1. If you are choking on an ice cube simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat. Presto! The blockage will instantly remove itself. 2. Avoid cutting yourself slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold while you chop. 3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the sink. 4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer. 5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button. 6 If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough. 7. You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape. 8. Daily thought: SOME PEOPLE ARE

Goodbye, Old Friend

Image
Some of you may know full well that I've been a smoker now for seven years. I had previously quit and was smoke free for four years before I picked cigarettes up again in 2000. It's been a pretty expensive habit. The first pack of Doral's that I brought cost a dollar. Now each pack is at least three bucks depending on where I was when I ran out of them. Janine and I are getting serious about getting ourselves in better shape so we're dedicating ourselves to working out more and one of the biggest hurdles was to quit smoking altogether. After some worries about high blood pressure, we both decided to say goodbye to smoking once and for all. Earlier this week, Janine went and got a box of those nicotine patches and I've been wearing them all week. I've made it all day today so far without putting one on (until now), but I think that I've quit smoking! I almost forgot how fun it was to breathe without choking on the air in my lungs. Janine hasn't even w

Check This Band Out!

I've always wanted to say this, and now I can. Hey, there's this great indie group that you should hear. They're called Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor and his band are making a big statement about the music industry. Big. Statement. read more | digg story

Going Out More

Image
This has definitely been an interesting week! I posted Tuesday about Sam and Jessi coming to visit. We stayed out pretty late, skipped work, the whole nine yards. Wednesday night, we went to hang out with some of Janine's coworkers at Capital Ale House downtown. That was a good time as well. It's always fun to sit back, drink craft beers (can't use the term microbrew anymore, it pisses off the beer gods), and talk about everything from Halo to Stephen King. Thursday night we stayed in. Shades of our own selves..but Janine closed so we had dinner and pretty much just went to bed. Friday, Janine and I went to visit Kelly and Jeff. Always good times when we go to visit. Always really nice to hang out on their front porch and shoot the breeze too with a variety of alcoholic beverages. Always fun to meet their friends and neighbors as well! We had a very good time and I hope that we can make a routine out of visiting our crazy friends more often. But going out 3 nights this week

The Nerd Tour of Richmond

Image
You can't put two geeks and their girlfriends together without some serious electronic shenanigans. Jessi and Sam got here around 2 o'clock (I think). We headed first towards the airport to check out Garden Ridge. It's a huge building full of things that would make most of our mother's salivate for days. Janine and I did agree on getting a fake black Christmas tree. It's not as Gothic as it sounds, it's actually very pretty and it'll look really nice with some white lights and some crystal like ornaments. We then traversed across 64 to Short Pump and went to the Barnes & Nobles. This was the biggest one in town and mostly the reason why we all decided to spend the day on the far west end. Jessi was looking for a book, or series of books or something. We then headed to the Short Pump Town Center to check out the Apple store. I had never been in that particular store before so it was very interesting to see the local snobbery that is Apple fan boys . I ha

Takin' a Day

I'm not exactly skipping work. I put in for this day off last week. But I'm totally feeling like I'm playing hooky today. Feels nice. I'm taking the day off for two reasons, though. First, Janine's off work and it's always nice to spend the morning just relaxing together. Second, Sam and Jessi are taking a daytrip and coming to town. They're going to her Richmond office first to have lunch with some coworkers, then we're meeting up after that. The plan is to check out one of the Barnes & Nobles in town, hit up the Apple store, visit a craft store in Stony Point, and enjoy dinner at Olive Garden. It'll be a fun relaxing day hanging out with friends. After all that, they're going to head back and Janine and I are heading back home to have a quiet evening before hitting the grind again tomorrow.
