Geek Weekend 2.0

Image
We got our nerd on this weekend for shizzle! Sam and Jessi arrived around 4PM and Sam brought his new PS3 with him. I like it. I will be getting that console probably in time for my birthday next year. I'm predicting a nice price cut, along with the possibility of Janine and I having HD in our future. So we'll see. The gaming was fun. It definitely is a slow loading console...which took up a lot of our game play, but I really enjoyed playing Resistance: Fall of Man, and other games. I look forward to the games coming out next year, most of all the new Metal Gear! We all gathered up after Janine got off work Saturday night and had dinner at Ruby Tuesday's. We had a good time there, pretty much hanging out until it was time for bed (but not after a little more last minute gaming). Sunday we got up pretty early. I think I got 5 hours sleep. Once everyone was up, we had breakfast at Aunt Sarah's and went to watch the new Harry Potter movie on IMAX. It is definitely the way

The Simpsons

I'm looking forward to taking Janine out tonight to watch The Simpson's movie. Here's a funny clip of Bart's prank phone calls to Moe's Pub.

Searching...

It doesn't take very long for people to notice that yes, I am knee deep in Google. I don't really use that as my primary search engine though. I use a lot of different algorithms. I want to go over some that I use, maybe I can turn you all on to something different. So what do I use Google for? My home page for starters. My iGoogle page is loaded with all the feeds, news, and humor that I need to start my browser day. I use Google Reader, which bunches all of my feeds in one neat place. You can see my Reader feed on the sidebar of this blog even. I use gmail because...well because I can. I got an early invite to join and I've been hooked ever since. To me it's one of the best web based email applications out there. And you all know Google has so much more going on. I feel like I'm one of their biggest lab rats, and I love it. Yahoo and I never got along. I love some of their services, like Flickr, but it just seems too, wooden for me. Their email client is also re

3 Years Ago Today

I sat in front of my computer with a good friend and I stumbled on Blogger. I felt the impulse to start a blog and from that moment, I started my journey with The Lewis Show. The internet like my blog has evolved quite a bit from that day. I enjoy posting about my life, and I'm honored that you all enjoy the things I post and are entertained. Thank you all again for dropping by. I am greatly humbled. Happy birthday to my blog!

Weekend Update

Image
After dinner at O'Charley's, our Friday night started at Platform 9 3/4 We met a huge line of people, Janine got her number and we waited in line. It was sort of entertaining, standing in line with large groups of teenagers. The big debate was MySpace vs. Facebook vs. Livejournal...I know, fascinating.. Once the witching hour came, the line slowly started to wind down, I like this pic that we took sitting on the curb before our number was called. This would set the pace for the rest of the weekend. Reading the new Harry Potter book...and it's a lot of book! The rest of the weekend, we took it easy. Zeus had the right idea. Sleep and be lazy. Very lazy. Topaz also had the right idea. Take it easy, enjoy the day with loved ones.

600 Posts!

That's a lot. In light of my iconic 600th post, I just thought I'd show a stupid picture.

Open Letter to Richmond Drivers

Image
Dear Richmond Driver: You cannot drive. You have no driving ability. You have entirely too much going on in your life to put my life in danger. Every single day I slam on my brakes, I swerve, and I'm forced to accelerate to near reckless driving speeds to avoid your distracted ass. How on God's earth did you pass a driver's test? I want to share with you all some important rules for driving. Many of you have no idea about how to preform these simple tasks, so I'm going to dumb this down as much as I can: Merging - This is the act of accelerating with traffic and merging with oncoming traffic. Now I know this can be tricky, and I know many of you think that there is no room to merge, but there's a simple reason for that. You are going 25 miles per hour and you are trying to merge with traffic going 65 miles per hour. That is why it seems like that car won't move over. That car does not have to move over. That car just has to keep the posted speed and allow for y

Social Music Networks

Image
Previously, I reviewed social networks, but born from these networks came social music networks. Myspace pioneered putting music directly into our speakers and introducing us all to new acts. Thanks to Myspace, bands like Job for a Cowboy and In This Moment have gained tremendous popularity. Myspace will at least for the time being be that hub for bands to form a community around their music and I don't see that going away just yet. Let's look at some of the music networks that I'm really enjoying.  I was introduced to the end user music network through Shoutcast .  Sh outcast is a part of Winamp which is my p referre d music and media player. Through Shoutcast, I'm able to broadcast my music live over the web via streaming to a server that I created.I started broadcasting in earnest in 2005 in Lynchburg and now I turn on my live music every weekend for anyone to enjoy. Last.FM  was that first big network th at allowed users to set up an account, to share the music

Kelly Stern Day

Image
Ok, it's not quite the national holiday yet, but today is Kelly's birthday. So I wanted to throw out a quick post to wish the old man a very Happy Birthday. 37 years old....phew. I also know that black mustang isn't waiting for you when you get home, this year, but one day...who knows. You know what they say about 37...it's just one year closer to 40. Stay young, Mr. Stern. I hope you have a fun, healthy, and happy year. Ya old fuckin' fart!

iGoogle Users

Image
You know who you are. Did you know that there's a widget that I designed which links to my blog? It also shows my last post and previews my next post. I know, pretty conceited, but this is The Lewis Show, and conceit is our friend. I'll eventually add this to my sidebar...but I don't feel like playing html madness 2007 tonight. Check out the gadget, if you like it, add it to your Google home page, and marvel at how sad your life has become. I'll find some way to make it up to you though, with decent content. I promise!

Social Networking

Image
It's hard to literally define a group of people on the internet as a "social network", but for years, there have been plenty of them out there. To me a social network is a circle of real friends. Not a page on the internet. But this is a new day. We all have a lot of ways to connect to that circle of real friends. We all remember the days of Friendster . That is until MySpace came along. I think everyone got caught up in that whirlwind. I don't know of many people that do not have myspace pages. In fact, if it were not for MySpace, I would not have met Janine, so I'm very thankful, for social networking. Today, there are many competitors, and with me growing weary of the ads, the spam, and the hacking on MySpace, I figured I'd look around to see what was really going on. Naturally, through Google, I have an Orkut account. Orkut is very basic, and it looks like it does the trick, as long as you have several friends that are on Orkut, otherwise, it's pr

By a nose! Great race last night. Janine and I went over to the gayborhood to watch the race on HD and some really good concert footage from Live Earth. Good time by all. The spiked watermelon was dangerously tasty. We got to meet Joe and Laird too...very nice folks. But nothing makes for a good evening like watching one of my fantasy NASCAR players win by a billionth of a second. Today is clean house and car day. I'm putting that off as long as humanily possible today!

It's 7/7/07

Does this mean today is everyone's lucky day?

Holiday Week Wrap Up

It's definately an experience having a holiday smack dab in the middle of the week. Thursday felt like Monday and Friday felt like Friday on rabies! Wednesday was pretty chill. Janine had to work, so I pretty much laid around and played Prince of Persia all day. When Janine got home after a long day, we decided to go park outside The Diamond to watch the fireworks. The game went very, very long, but it was worth the wait. I'm posting a clip of the display below. Very pretty! Friday afternoon Janine and I spent the day out. It's good to work half days in the summer especially when she's off work. We had lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, went to Target for supplies, to Best Buy so I could get my geek on, to Barnes & Nobles to pre order the last Harry Potter book, then I got a haircut! So it was a busy day. I love spending the day with the love of my life. We ended it by watching Night Watch which means I owe Janine a movie. I've subjected her to two whacky foreign movies, a

Happy Birthday, America. Better days are ahead. I know it.

My Next PC

Image
I've always thought long and hard about what to do when my computer dies. I've had this machine since 2001 and it's very much outdated. My next machine is not going to be a pre fabbed order from HP or Dell. I'm going to build it myself. With the help from the people at TigerDirect , I'm going to show you the parts and costs and the pains that I'm willing to endure to build my next machine. This is going to get really geeky, so be warned. I'm starting off with a monitor. I'm ready for a flat panel LCD. I was tedious at first, because the technolgy wasn't there yet, and the costs were through the roof, but now that the prices have gone down, and the functionality has arrived, I'm ready to get with the program. The Acer boasts a 19 inch screen, and has a decent 700:1 contrast ratio. That's really all I need. And at about $160.00, not a bad price. I remember when these things were 600 bucks easy. Plus looking at 16.2 million colors on this bad

Really Random Stuff

Yeah, it's time to return to the random: I just really like bullet points. Our cat Zeus, talks in her sleep. I like the red that Coca Cola is using. It's a really rich red. It takes me two days to recover from a hangover and two days to recover when two people are out of the office. I can't wait for season three of Battlestar Galactica. There is going to be a season three....right? Harry Potter comes out in a couple weeks...and it's on IMAX! Why can't I use my house phone to text people? The iPhone is out. I'm waiting for the flip iPhone....and for extra money. Damn, Neopets is addictive. My day is not complete if I'm not drawing my neointerest from my neobank account! Everyone is on vacation but Janine and me. We really need to take a weekend at the beach soon, or something. It's going to be a long, long time for September. I'm so proud of my tumblog! Who looked at a mushroom and said, "Let's call this a mushroom."? That's all the
