The Blahs

Being born under the sign of Pisces it's easy to read about how someone like me can become utterly depressed over the simplest of things. At my age, I've outgrown dwelling on having those down days, but every once in a while that day will still creep up on me. Today was one of those days. I woke up around 10, pretty normal day. It was cloudy and cool, which was refreshing. It was raining out so I figured there were no plans for the morning. I went with Shawn to pick up my car and drag it to the Cattle Annie's parking lot. The bearing is out on the left rear tire and the brakes are gone in the back. Being an inspection month, I'm going to have to cough up some serious loot to be able to cover for that. The other bills are in great need of payment too, so it's going to be a rough pay period. So basically I spent the evening at home, hanging out with friends. But during the course of that, and the headache I was fighting all day, I started to have those familiar

One Year Ago...

I meant to do this on Saturday, but in the battle over memory, senility won. Can you believe that in a year's time: In July, I was stoned and craving a glazed doughnut frozen beverage? In August, I was a 16 year old having trouble with my DSL and spyware? In September, I was a hacker recovering from Ozzfest 2004? In October, I became a Korn, Chevelle listening uncle? In November, I was celebrating Firefox 1.0, Collective Soul and the life of ODB? In December, I mourned the passing of Dimebag, Ken Jenning's run on Jeopardy, and the end of a fun year? In January, Kat found Harry Potter. I found the flu and St. Diablo. In February, Mudvayne let me down, and I shared my passion for starting a band. In March, I saw Slipknot, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Bleed, Art of Destruction, 3 Inches of Blood, The Agony Scene, Still Remains, and Trivium. I turned a year older and really really ready! In April, the Pope died and I found my confidence. In May,

Back From Ozzfest

Here it is, my review of the past 24 hours. What a day it was! Sunday morning, Shawn, Megan, Gene, Jessi, Allen, Kat and myself packed up the cars and left for northern Virginia around 6AM. Megan drove her jeep and Kat, Jessi, and Shawn drove with her on the way down. I drove Jessi's car and had Allen and Gene in tow. Even the ride to Ozzfest was a good time. Shawn was throwing those little cheese goldfish at our car and Jessi mooned us. We got there after constant pee breaks around 9:40. Arch Enemy was supposed to start off and I was a little bummed that we were late and were going to miss them, but just like last year, the opening band didn't make it in time. That means that Trivium started out. So we missed Trivium! I hope we can get to see them this fall when they go back on tour though. So our day started with The Black Dahlia Murder. I enjoyed their set. It wasn't anything mind blowing, but they c

Still Sore?

Not really, Adriana. Thursday night was a lot of fun, though. The Wrecking Crew was out in full force. We left around 8 to get there early enough to hang out. We were all hoping for a much larger crowd than we got, but the people that did show came to have a good time. Delete the Day started off. I had no idea that you could get 5 people together in Lynchburg of all places and create a pretty decent band. I hope they can find some success. I know they're working hard too on creating a scene here in town. St. Diablo was next. We gave them an hour set this time. They played some songs from their next CD. They're in the studio now finishing up. They played a crazy set! Shawn came up and helped with a couple songs which was a decent surprise. The people that had never heard St. Diablo before were all blown away. I always get asked what they sound like. A lot of people found out on Thursday and loved it. I wish them the best on their upcoming tour! So today I relax as much a

Thursday Night

I don't care who you are, if you are anywhere near Lynchburg Thursday night, I better see you at CattleAnnie's for Delete the Day and St. Diablo.

Busy Week?

Image
Why yes, Jessica, it is going to be a busy week. Nice rack by the way. Oh, what AM I up to this week? Monday - car maintenance Tuesday night - stream of Saint Diablo's CD on the Lynchburg Underground. 9PM. Thursday - Metal Show at Cattle Annie's. Don't forget!! Saint Diablo will be playing with local act Delete the Day Friday - Premiere of The Devil's Rejects Saturday - Day of relaxation Sunday - Ozzfest. 14 hours of metal, moshing, chicks with painted boobies, expensive merch, and stinky sweaty teenagers. I can't wait! Thank goodness I have the next day off after Ozzfest. Last year I needed 3 days just to recover. That's all for this week, I'll be back to post more content as it becomes necessary.

Potter Power

CNN.com - A magical day for Harry Potter fans - Jul 16, 2005 I cannot handle the hype! I went to pick up Kat's copy of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince this morning after work. She will not be available at all Sunday. Tonight we are all getting together sans Jessi to party at Doodie and Sandra's house. Brad and his girlfriend are in town, so we're going to show them a good time.

diggnation My website plug of the month. As you are well aware, I get my fill of geek news from digg.com. The founders get together and put out an hour long podcast reviewing the articles that got the most diggs. They're occasionally entertaining too.

Where the Hell is Mike?

I'm around I swear. I honestly don't have any new content for the site. I've mostly been working on the sidebar content. Once I get that on there, I can pretty much just post personal content and keep the rest updated automatically. I'm basically working on a few things. Here's a short list: I'm going to record an hour of The Lynchburg Underground Saturday and Sunday nights, and put them on iTunes, etc as podcasts. I can see college kids everywhere jamming to the sounds of the underground. Check out The Wrecking Crew myspace account. It's very entertaining. Operation get Kat into VCU. If there's a way under heaven, she'll be attending this year! Laundry. House cleaning. Bill paying. Work is draining the life right out of me and so is this thunderstorm. I better post this before I lose lights.

Saturday's Agenda

Image
Saturday, Shawn, Jessi, Kat, and I are heading to Richmond to See St. Diablo preform with Bullistic, Memory Fade, and Ravens Place. It should be a fun show, but I really wanted to post the flyer. Good artwork should always be recognized!

Pink Floyd at Live8

Metal Injection - Get Your Fix Wow...I would have never thought to see this day. I never was this massive Pink Floyd fan, they were way before my time. But how cool would it be to see them in concert? I have this list of things I'll never see or be able to do, and I'm hoping I can take seeing them play together off my list. Wow.

It's About That Time

That's right. It's time for more random thoughts from the central processing random thought generator that I like to call "My mind". Camping with the inlaws and my friends is a lot of fun as long as drunken neighbors and mooching liquor hounds don't happen across the campgrounds. The pre college stress is really starting to hit Kat and myself. We are scraping up what we can to make damn sure she's attending classes this fall. This is her calling. She will be checking into the dorms this fall and I will still be in the LBC. By January I should be joining her in the big city. Jessi and I will be working on live programming for The Lynchburg Underground this fall. We are also going to podcast the shows on iTunes. I think it will take off and I hope a lot of college kids will get to hear the programming. I'll have more info about this as time goes on. Speaking of Jessi. Sexual harassment Sunday went well. Allen and I detailed her car and she

Trivium in Kerrang

Roadrunner Records These guys have arrived! I've got to find a store around here that has this magazine. It looks like an unusually good write up considering its Kerrang. I'm sure Trivium will do really well at Ozzfest this year.
