The Nerd Tour of Richmond

You can't put two geeks and their girlfriends together without some serious electronic shenanigans. Jessi and Sam got here around 2 o'clock (I think). We headed first towards the airport to check out Garden Ridge. It's a huge building full of things that would make most of our mother's salivate for days.

Janine and I did agree on getting a fake black Christmas tree. It's not as Gothic as it sounds, it's actually very pretty and it'll look really nice with some white lights and some crystal like ornaments.

We then traversed across 64 to Short Pump and went to the Barnes & Nobles. This was the biggest one in town and mostly the reason why we all decided to spend the day on the far west end. Jessi was looking for a book, or series of books or something.

We then headed to the Short Pump Town Center to check out the Apple store. I had never been in that particular store before so it was very interesting to see the local snobbery that is Apple fan boys. I had a good time there though. I got to play with the iPhone and the new iPod touch. I'm such a sucker for such geekyness. I wanted to play with them for hours!

Sam was looking for a good deal on a Mac Mini but the Apple store is still selling them for a pretty high price, so we agreed that we should check out the CompUSA down the road to see if they had anything on sale. They did not...I'm sure Sam's going to check out eBay to see if someone is selling one at a decent price.

We then had to bring balance so we headed down Broad Street to Ben Franklin crafts. Janine found a coloring book and coloring pencils and Jessi got handfuls of yarn.

Boy shopping for crafts can work up an appetite! We all finished the evening by heading to Olive Garden for some fine Italian -like cuisine. Everything was delicious! I had a glass of Shiraz. Very tasty and fruity. I then chowed down on some beefar...I mean Cheese Ravioli. I don't know, it was a craving. Everything was very nice though.

Sam and Jessi hit the road around 9 and Janine and I went home, watched a little TV and passed out. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday away from work I'd say!

    Sam did indeed heck out e-bay for some deals, but unfortunately was out bid at the last minute on two separate auctions. Then he noticed that the same bidder was purchasing every available mac mini available. We're not sure if he's just a huge douchebag, or owns a store, or is setting up a cafe or what.
    Anywho much fun was had, and I've done lots of knitting today, and even updated my blog with another review and new picture. Wee!

I moved to Richmond in September, full of aprehension. Many of you by keeping up with my story know full well the ups and downs that I have faced. I was very fortunate to land a great job in October. After a lot of rejection, and fear for losing everything I started my new job with that same fear I had when I moved to this city. I was crammed in an office with Kelly Stern. He is such a kind, patient, gentle soul. He showed me around and I got comfortable working there really fast. I smile when I remember one of my coworkers talking about us giggling in there all day. The Drowning Death Spiral of Modern Political Debates

There's nothing like a tragic loss of life for people to tout their political beliefs. And it's so much easier in this social media age. As I've noted many times before though, there's a lot less discourse now and a lot more shouting and yelling. The weekend tragedy in Orlando is a sad and depressing example of this showboating. In the midst of evil and intolerance, sides have geared up to discuss the merits of gun control again. Yet I don't really hear a coherent debate. What I hear are two sides screaming about two narratives that don't mesh together at all. Picture two children arguing. One wants a video game and the other one wants to eat. The focus is in two different arenas, food and fun. On one side of the gun debate are people who are strong advocates of constitutional jurisprudence. My Wiiview

You all may be familiar with my Wii saga. Janine told me on my birthday in March that we were going to purchase the console which made me very happy. I figured both of us would be able to enjoy the Wii so it was a better value. Being at least two hundred dollars cheaper than the other new consoles help make that an easy decision too. Little did we know that we were in the midst of trying to find one the most sought after pieces of hardware since Tickle Me Elmo. I remember going to at least 5 stores in March only to find laughter when asked if they had any of these Wiis in stock. The manager of one store even told me that if I get in early enough, there may be two consoles, but I better bring a bat because the soccer moms trying to find them as well may have rabies. So Janine and I pretty much gave up on finding the new Nintendo console until last week when I was shopping for her iPod Nano. Sitting there in the back of the store were three Wiis.
