Recap and Randomness

Image
This is going to pretty much be a full service post. I'm going to go over my fun eventful weekend and share some thoughts. Why not, right? Thought: Boy, am I glad to be off work today. I needed a day off some kind of bad and a 4 day week sounds like the recipe for easyness. Which means work will be insane and stressful. I'm good at jinxing good things. Recap: Friday night, Jessi and I went to see X-Men 3. I liked the story, but it kinda felt me with an empty feeling. A lot changes during this movie but that has to take place for some of the things I think we'll see in the next movies. Indeed they are making more despite my ignorance in a previous post. Good movie, though. I still want to see Gambit. T hought: I'm off work because it is Memorial Day. I always made it a tradition to take a minute to think about and thank the fallen soldiers from my family. Today, it just seems much more vast considering the amount of sacrifice we see everyday just by turning on the news,

Rhetoric

Why do they lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid someone will clean them? Why do people who know the least know it the loudest? If the funeral procession is at night, do folks drive with their headlights off? If a stealth bomber crashes in a forest, will it make a sound? If a turtle doesn't have a shell, is he homeless or naked? When it rains, why don't sheep shrink? Should vegetarians eat animal crackers? If the cops arrest a mime, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent? When companies ship Styrofoam, what do they pack it in? If you're cross-eyed and have dyslexia, can you read all right?

Holiday Weekend Fun!

Image
I'm going to have so much fun this weekend. Here's the tentative plans so far... Tonight around 8 or so, Jessi will be coming in to spend the weekend. We're then going to catch the premiere of X3 which we have both been looking forward to for a long time. I don't think I've been this excited for a movie coming out for a long time. I'm anxious to see how they draw this trilogy to an end. I have a feeling they will leave room for another movie maybe later on down the road. From there, Jessi and I are going back to the casa to chill and relax and probably turn in early and prepare for Saturday. Saturday we are going to hit the Hot Topic so she can spend the $100.00 (shh) in gift cards that she got for her birthday. It's going to be like watching a kid in a candy store. She goes crazy in there as it is but with that kind of spending money she's going to be getting shirts, boots, pants, hair dye, stickers, pins, you name it. I'm going to have fun ju

Last Night

I had a ball last night! Janine picked me up from work and we headed to Regency to grab some food and pick up James , who come to find out is a huge Sevendust fan and a lot of fun to hang with, more on that later. We headed to the Innsbrook Pavilion which looks really nice as far as outdoor venues go. There was your typical heavy police and security force there, and I don't blame them considering the copious amounts of alchohol that was being consumed by everybody. There was some band playing already out of Boston, but I wasn't impressed. Come to find out later the guy I was headb anging with during Sevendust was their guitarist. Soil came on next and I'm sold. I had doubts about their new lead singer, but he had a lot of energy. By the end of the set he was down in the circle moshing with the kids and hippies who paid for those tickets. As it started to get dark, Sevendust came out and blew me away again! The entire show was good. There's never a dull moment between th

Soil Sevendust Things are set for this Wednesday! Janine and I and a few friends, I think are going to Innsbrook to see Soil and Sevendust. Tickets are still available if anyone in the Richmond area is looking for something to do in the middle of the week besides watching TV..or eating food.

PBR and Mr. Cash

Well I had a blast last night, let me see if I can recap it before it goes into the massive storage vault that I call my memories. Janine came to get me around 8:30 and we went to her brother's to do a car exchange and head out. Her brother was DJing at some bar close to where I work and needed Janine's PT Cruiser for the equipment. We then took his company car and headed to Hollywood Grill which is pretty close to VCU. Once there we found a Johnny Cash cover band playing..I think they're called Black Cash, I dunno it was ok. It's just kinda grating to hear someone F up lyrics, but from what I heard they're doing a lot better. After a quick beer and after meeting Janine's friends D Ray (I know his real name but I don't want to misspell it) and Tracy we headed to The Dog House over in the Canal District or whatever it's called. Tracy and D-Ray We closed The Dog house down (it wasn'

What better way to mark this date than to share a little bit about my whereabouts over the past few weeks. Thanks to a discussion about In Flames, I started meeting up with Janine (yeah, that's her). It's just crazy and exciting to find someone who's actually on my wavelength..I can be the real me and not fear for a thing. Our first night out she took me to Wonderland down in the River district. I still want to call that Shockoe bottom, but I'm learning to adapt. From there after a few nights of pool and a lot of hanging out, I realized this beautiful, smart, crazy, spontanious woman was meant to be in my life now. I rediscovered my love for PBR too...and bars in general. Tomorrow we are going to say goodbye eating junk food with a feast at the chinese buffet on Midlothian, and work on eating better. This weekend should be fun too. I get to ride around town in her new PT Cruiser. She's working non stop on finishing her school and I'm very excited and proud o

I can't believe Jessi is turning 27 today. I met her not long after she turned 20! I'll never forget meeting her. I was working for JCrew and I worked at the NOC. The NOC determined who could get off work early or if we needed to force a mandatory full shift, etc. It's all call center bullshit. I had just broken up with Kat the second time in the fall of 1999 and I was determined to let her shift off early so I didn't have to put up with her following Nicole around like a lost puppy dog. Jessi also got off at that time and she would always check out grinning at me from ear to ear. Eventually she got up the nerve to talk to me at some point that next spring when she took up employment at GE and soon after that I quit JCrew and started working over there too. We would chat on sametime from the minute I checked into work until the minute we checked out every day, and then hang out at my apartment with the rest of the crew until the weee hours in the morning. I've

Please Leave a Mess....beep

Random stuff. Fun. I'm packing up now to spend Mother's Day weekend with the parents. I haven't seen them in a while and I can't wait to see them and my new car. Speaking of the car, I'm really hoping to be driving that bad boy by the end of the month. My Dad is nothing short of being my hero. I have had the most intense, fun week in a long time. I'll leave it at that...for now. Jessi is turning 27 on Tuesday. Go post a message (preferably something obsene) Have I said how much I hate my fucking neighbors. I want to smack her babies. Especially Calamine..Clamydia or whatever her godawful name is. Congrats to a writer friend of mine, Kelly for getting her book picked up..sorta. She is trying to find someone who'll pick it up. Good luck to you! I love payday! I hate American Idol, but I really hope that Chris Daugherty gets picked up by Fuel. That would just be too crazy to see him thrust into superstardom rather than the pop BS that

My Superfantastic Adventures

Ok, my title overhypes my weekend just a little, but I felt the need for a spectacular heading for once. Friday was pretty much uneventful. While people were out dancing, drinking coronas, and taking advantage of a chance to act stupid under the guise of Mexican independance, I was at home, low key, hanging out with some new friends. Saturday late afternoon, Jessi finally made it in from North Carolina. She lost her grandmother last week and went to pay her respects. Neither of us knew that drive up 360 from South Boston would take several hours. I think we can map her journey a little better next time. We then journeyed over to AlleyKatz to see Behelmod, Fallen Under, Unhinge, and Saint Diablo. I have to admit I was impressed by Behelmod! I always have a fondness of straight in your face death metal. I hope to see 'em again. Fallen Under is also very enjoyable and they are doing well in this contest (if you can call it that) to win a recording contract. Go visit them and vote if

Growing Up Metal pt 1

Image
I was taking a quick look back at my childhood when School of Rock came on. It's not that great of a movie, though I gotta admit, I like Jack Black's style. But I started thinking. What turned me into the 32 year old metalhead that I am today? I had to look way back for some influences and tonight I'm going to start off with 2 of those. AC/DC. How could I not put in that 8 track I stole from my cousin and not crank this up? When I put in Back in Black I was mesmerised at how just 1 or 2 simple chords could shake my young soul. Just to go back to the 70's/early 80's to hear albums such as Highway to Hell and Jailbreak, I learned the genius that was Bon Scott. His ticket was called way too early. The band lives on, though. I can't wait to see these legends blow me away when they release another studio album this year. Tour the states, mates! OYE! It seems the British chistled my every foundation because nothing would excite me more than to go home after school wit

The Work Poop

We've all been there but don't like to admit it. As much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise, the WORKPOOP is inevitable. For those who hate pooping at work, following is the Survival Guide for taking a dump at work. CROP DUSTING: When farting, you walk briskly around the office so the smell is not in your area and everyone else gets a whiff but doesn't know where it came from. Be careful when you do this. Do not stop until the full fart has been expelled. Walk an extra 30 feet to make sure the smell has left your pants. FLY BY: This is the act of scouting out a bathroom before pooping. Walk in and check for other poopers. If there are others in the bathroom, leave and come back again. Be careful not to become a FREQUENT FLYER. People may become suspicious if they catch you constantly going into the bathroom. ESCAPEE: This is a fart that slips out while taking a leak at the urinal or forcing a poop in a stall. This is usually accompanied by a sudden wave o
