End of the Month Random

And here we go! I'm amazed American Idol is still as popular as it is. I can only really stomach the auditions, but how much more can we take, people? I priced different PCs today both desktop and laptop including Macs. Getting a new computer would be a very expensive, far away task for sure. Payday is coming in 4 hours!! Hamburgers for dinner, tonight. I'm getting good at whipping them up on the George Foreman grill, but I can't wait to have a really nice gas grill to really cook 'em right. I had been getting a Generic Host Sys32 Process error on my PC the past few days. It's been a real pain in the ass trying to get that bug fixed. Darn you, Microsoft! Debating on whether to watch Eastern Promises or Day Watch tonight. Gotta watch one or the other. I'm already sick of that new Macbook Air commercial. It's a tiny piece of junk, we get it. Speaking for myself, I am ready for springtime. Janine and I are going to start planning a long weekend here soon. Work

Superbowl, meh

Image
The last time I posted a picture of Tom Brady, I got an appreciative comment from Kelly , so I'm going to do pretty much the same. I wanted to take a second to predict the outcome of this year's Super Bowl. Patriots 55 Giants 10. That's right. In fact I'll go ahead and say it now, the 2007 Patriots are the best team ever and there will be no way to dispute or prove that otherwise. Yuck! In fact, if I could legitimately predict a team to get a triple digit score, I would. That's right 100+ points. It can be done and if it happens to any team at any time in history, it'll probably happen this Sunday.

Phase Two Underway

Image
So now the fun part begins. After giving up cigarettes last year, my next big phase in self improvement is to get on a regular workout schedule. Janine and I have joined Gold's gym and are getting into a routine of going at least every other day no matter what. I've been going to the Broad Street gym and I really like the facility. There's plenty room and I haven't had a problem with crowding like I did when I was going to the Gold's in Lynchburg. Everyone seems really nice too. I can tell I'll be making this a near every day routine in the future, if for anything to walk a couple miles and get the heart pumping. I have been such a slug over the past yearand I already feel a lot better about myself. So good for me. I rock.

Site of the Week

Image
I've talked about Pownce before a few months ago when talking about the new face of the web and how social networks have become an important and habitual part of anyone's routine online. Pownce was started primarily by Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, Kevin Rose, Ariel Waldman, and Shawn Allen who may sound familiar from their work primarily with digg . I had mentioned that Pownce was in private beta at the time, but now it's an open beta release including their Adobe Air client. I have always, since the beginning enjoyed the sense of community on the site not only because people can exchange messages or micro blog like Twitter , but people can share files, images from Flickr and Zooomr, clips from Youtube, and even share events with any circle of friends. Most of all, I like the interface, it's comfortable and pretty easy to customize. I hope more people sign up for Pownce, and that they remember to add me as a friend!

Pack Year in Review

I was really hoping to wait one more game before recapping the fun year I had watching the Packers this year. That was just not to be. It's amazing how one bad play or one bad decision can ruin an entire year. I remember starting the year thinking that my team didn't stand a snowball's chance. A team with the one of the oldest quarterbacks to play along with the youngest team in the entire league didn't sound like the formula to success. So you can imagine my surprise when Green Bay won their first five games. Favre looked like he did 11 years ago when he lead his team to a Super Bowl win over a highly overrated New England Patriots team (sound familiar?) We saw the rise of two shining stars in Green Bay along with many others. Ryan Grant and Greg Jennings were reliable and consistent threats to the Packer offense. Their futures are bright and if they played in any other market, they would be touted easily as league MVP. The real stars were the defense. Teams had a hard

Actor Heath Ledger Found Dead

Image
Ledger, probably best known for his role in Brokeback Mountain was found dead today at the age of 29. What a shame. Information has been put together quickly thanks to the folks at Mahalo . With Batman slated to be his last major release, Ledger is bound to live in infamy amoung other Hollywood actors that had their lives also cut short. My heart goes out to his family, what a shame.

Bad Snow, Poor Timing!

Image
I'm always taken back to my childhood anytime I see it snowing outside. I remember crossing fingers and toes and everything else that we would get to miss a day or two of school whenever the white stuff fell. Back in my day though, we didn't have cancellations based on a forecast, we had to have a good foot of snow on the ground before school was canceled. Be that as it may, I'm always happy and giddy when it snows, just like when I was a child. I am, however miffed that it had to fall on a Saturday night. This stuff needs to come down and freeze up for Monday morning..not Sunday morning. Sheesh. I have a fine Chilean cabernet that needs to be taken care of today. I should be able to enjoy a couple glasses this evening. I'm hoping they will be in celebration. My Packers play the Giants tonight and we are one game away from the Super Bowl! Janine and I will be doing our charity work with her coworkers tonight so I'll be doing that, then probably rushing home after di

Painful

You know it's easy to spend someone else's money. It is not easy to help someone spend money on something that you want desperately though. Dad came into town in need of a new desktop computer. He will be 66 years old in March and this is his first computer. I took him to Best Buy to get him a basic starter computer. He basically only really needs this PC to put together his Sunday School lesson and won't have any kind of internet for a while (he lives way out in the boonies). I haggled and twisted arms at the Best Buy until I found him the best deal on an HP desktop solution that gives him a ton of hard drive space, it's very fast with an Intel Dual Core Processor (it's funny, he insisted on Intel, he hates AMD for some unknown reason), and he got a nice big 19" monitor and new printer. I'm very proud of him and I know even more now that I am my Father's son. He had such an eagerness that only I could possess around such toys! He got a pretty sweet dea

Plug of the Week!

I have been seriously slacking with the blog. I know lately I have been posting somewhat addictive sites and this weeks plug is no different. This site does have a lot more adult content than a lot of my previous posts, so you've been warned. Craigslist is a hugely successful online classified service that has changed that way the online community buys and sells. People that know the site know full well it can be very innocent, from shopping for a refrigerator or car to the outright outlandish personal section which to me is nothing short of really, really creepy. There are some posts on Craigslist that are so crazy though that people nominate in a best of website. That is the Best of Craigslist website. I have found endless entertainment reading about people's rants about everything from finding a roomate to selling anatomically correct furniture. Enjoy and accept my apologies for getting you hooked on another quirky part of the interwebs.

Last Weekend in Maryland

Image
Kaleb and I huddled up last Sunday Dave and Kaleb on the air mattress. The house is wall to wall Thomas the Trains. Janine and Barbie in the background one reading, one writing, and I'm halfway sleeping.

Weekend Recharge

Image
I've had a pretty productive weekend. I've mostly worked on the house, trying to keep things nice, clean and organized. I've done some work outside too, I really need to get rid of these leaves though. Saturday night, Janine and I went to her Mom's for dinner and to watch Hairspray. It's a musical. Those of you following my twitter feed knows about the agony and celebration that was my Packers winning yesterday over the Seahawks. It started out so, so bad. I really felt nauseous. Here's Ryan Grant's highlights , you can see for yourself. He fumbled twice in the first 5 minutes of the game but turned things around scoring 3 touchdowns. Brett Favre as always was magnificent . I am pretty much now convinced that he's going to play another year of football. I hope he does too, he's really good for the game. I'd love nothing more than for Favre and the Packers to beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Man.. Today's pretty much the same. Some h

When the Going Gets Tough,

Image
The tough get bowling? Maybe origami, the tough get origami. Good one. Maybe they try to play putt putt half as well as I can. Janine and I are in that post holiday, it's January, wintertime rut. Blahs even! It's hard to describe, but overall things have not been at their best in the LewisShow household. Janine had a great idea though last night, we need a night out every week, or a day out every week so I'm thinking about setting that night for one of four events a month. Now I don't want to remove the ability to be spontaneous, but let's face it. I'm about as spontaneous as a city stoplight at midnight, so maybe this will seem a little wooden, but here's what I've come up with so far: Free night 1: Bowling night which involves beer, hot wings, and maybe bowling too. Free night 2: Movie night which is more relaxed but there's always something in theaters worth watching. Free night 3: Pool hall/sports bar night which again involves beer, maybe

CES!!!

Image
The big geek news this week is all coming out of The Consumer Electronics Show (CES)in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am posting links to some interesting panels and gadgets on my tumblr , so be sure to flip over there. I just had to stop and drool at this Alienware monitor (thanks to Gizmodo for the pic). This would look so very perfect on my desk......to put it mildly. WANT!

And in Other News

Image
I have to get back into my old pre holiday routine and fast! I was off today (see prior, oh, 2 or 3 posts) so that's 3 weeks in a row where I've had some kind of extended weekend. I think things will be getting back to normal just in time for all the babies to be born. I do feel productive, though. I got Janine's car nice and clean after I trashed it on our trip. That's a very nice feeling of accomplishment. I love driving her car. I just really wish I could "pimp" it out, you know, put nice wheels on it, put a flames down the sides, maybe one of those large carburetors (you know, the ones that go over the hood). I mean she does drive a PT Cruiser, I think she should do it up right, 1950's hot rod style! I am nervous about this weekend, the Seahawks are coming to town to play the GB Packers. They played a heck of a game in the second half against the surging Redskins late week, so I'm hoping for blizzard conditions this weekend for sure. Will this be t

Weekend Trip Recap

Image
Janine and I left for Baltimore to see my brother, wife and son Sunday. As I mentioned before he had been in an accident and I wanted to give some details while respecting his need for privacy. Fortunately he is fine. He was involved in a one car wreck involving his car and a local establishment, but no one was hurt at all. Dave did get a scratch on his arm, but was otherwise unharmed. I think he's mostly just embarrassed about what happened than anything else. As far as what happened and everything else, I don't think it would be a good idea to talk about that at this point. The important thing is that he's fine, his wife and son are fine, and the unborn twins are kicking and over 3lbs a piece now. Please continue to keep them all in your thoughts as they deal with the fallout from his accident. My brother, if anything, has always been known to bounce back from adversity. He will continue to do so with this, I'm confident. On another happy, unrelated note, I have figur

I adore this Southwest Airlines commercial featuring a guy that fills up the bank deposit tube with coins and launches at the bank tellers. Classic!

Heading to Baltimore

Image
Janine and I are taking an impromptu trip to Baltimore to see my brother, his wife, and son. I was thinking we would be up there after the birth of their twins, but Dave was involved in an accident late this week and I'm going to spend some time up there to help out as I can. Keep Dave in your thoughts, he's doing fine, but he's going through a very personal, frustrating time in light of the accident. He's a good man, and it's always hard to watch good people struggle with the pains of life. I'll have more details down the road. I just wanted to share my concerns and ask for thoughts and prayers for Dave.

Huckabee's Not so Secret Weapon

Image
There's a powerful force that carried Mike Huckabee to victory in Iowa Thursday Night. I'm sure it's hard to miss it from this shot. It's the man who hides another fist behind his beard, it's the man that uses a cheese grator to wipe after using the restroom, it's the man who lost his virginity before his father. It's the C H U C K. Where's Bruce Lee when we need him?
