I'm Frickin' Everywhere

I didn't have to think too hard about my web pick of the week: While listening to Net@Night with Leo LaPorte and Amber MacArthur, I hear them discussing a site called Friend Feed . Basically it's a site that aggregates your entire web feed experience and puts it into one pretty little package. This is great for people that are in a lot of social networks as I have found myself in over the past couple years. I'm all over the place. I'm everywhere from Twitter, to Facebook, to Pownce, to MySpace and everywhere in between. I've now plugged in all of my networks into Friend Feed and I have now an extensive feed of all of my feeds. Talk about going into a downward spiral of self importance! I love the service, don't get me wrong, this is really a neat and organized way to follow me, and for me to follow my friends that take the time to feed their feeds into this feed, but pretty soon I'm going to hit feed overload. My bathroom breaks are going to have their o

Leap This

So today is February the 29th. This day only comes once every four years. It's Leap Day. I wake up and see frogs on Google, frogs on Yahoo, frogs everywhere. I imagine it's unique to have a birthday or share an anniversary with someone on this day, but now I worry that by the time the next one rolls around, it's going to be another one of those Hallmark holidays. You know what I mean too. Everyone will have to buy a card at least and then on top of that maybe a large green frog balloon, or maybe a basket of flowers. I've already seen stories where women have taken this day as a weird chance to propose to their boyfriends, so that means the jewelry commercials will start showing right after Valentine's Day. Which means the entire months of November, December, and now February people will be buried in jewelry store ads. I can see it now. "She went to Jared . Sheeee went to Jared. She went to Jared? It can only be Jared!" The commercialism of holidays has got

Where's the Beef?

I have been uninspired to write about much lately. There isn't a whole lot going on in my life, there are a few things and I'll talk about them now, but otherwise, things are pretty quiet. The last two weekends Janine and I have been traveling. Weekend before last, we visited my parents and last weekend we visited Sam and Jessi in Lynchburg. Neither stop netted us enough time to do a whole lot, but it was good to get out of the house and spend time with friends in a quiet setting. Janine's sister had her second son last Sunday. He's an adorable, solid baby too. I hope to have pictures to post of little Ryder soon. He definitely looks like his Mom. My brother's wife is great with children and is ready to bust herself. She is carrying twins each weighing in at over six pounds now. That's just insane. I get tired carrying laundry from room to room, I can't imagine trucking babies around like that in my belly! I'm staring at the calendar and I see that March

This Weekend in Cats

Image
Zeus could care less that we were travelling, as long as she's got plenty food! Sam and Jessi went out and got a three legged cat. She's real sweet, but having a time adjusting to the new digs. Her name oddly enough is Tripod...I shall call her Tripseh! Kitty is also adjusting to having a new roomie. He kinda stayed in watch mode all weekend and avoided any confrontations. Good boy. We had a good time in Lynchburg, it's always good to get out of town for a couple of days and spend it with friends...and their cats.

Plug of the Week (hic)

As I mentioned in my last post, I watch a few tech podcasts. There is, however one podcast that is not centered around tech, it's centered around wine. I'm referring to WineLibrary TV with Gary Vaynerchuk. He has been reviewing wines for two years with a simple formula: learn your tastes, stick with your tastes. His methods are over the top, but to me the entertainment value raises the value of his content. Gary was born in part of the Soviet Union, but moved away with his parents as a child. The Vaynerchuks opened The Wine Library in New Jersey and the rest is now RSS history. Wine can be pretty intimidating for some, it was for me. Mostly I feared being scoffed by wine snobs for mispairing food with wine or not knowing the right terms, but I've learned a lot watching Gary's podcasts. I can order wine with confidence, I know which wines to try now, overall I'm just a better more rounded person as a result. So I highly recommend everyone who is interested in wine

My Mac Rant

As many of you know, since I received an Apple iPod for Christmas in 2006, I have been actively listening and watching several podcasts. Naturally I gravitated to the Tech TV refugees who are not podcasting since G4 pulled the plug on the network a few years ago. I've always respected these broadcasters but lately I'm starting to wonder what I saw in these people. They've always been Mac users and that's never bothered me but lately they've been making snide remarks about how awful using Windows has been. Some of them who were PC users have also switched over to Macs in what looks to me to be nothing short of a cry for attention. In school I first used Apple software. I used it all the way through high school in limited doses. I didn't go to a tech savvy school so I didn't touch a computer again until my Dad brought me a Tandy when I went off to college. Needless to say I was not impressed with Windows 3.1. I figured it out pretty quick though. I didn't

For those who work inside cubicles all week, I salute you. This prank is just classic!

iGoogle Trickery

I got a call early this morning from my Dad who was upset that he could not get to his iGoogle homepage. He then mentioned something with Windows Defender, which freaked me out a little. I figured he had already found a way to get spyware on his computer. He told me that whenever he accessed his home page, he would get a page redirect to this website (be careful it may have tracking cookies, etc). I logged onto his desktop and tried the homepage and got the same redirect. I first ran a spyware scan which netted nothing, I cleared out his browser history which didn't stop his home page from redirecting so I flipped back to my desktop and logged into his iGoogle page from my own PC. I then had the same problem. I figured that there was some hijack in one of his gadgets, so I checked the Google groups and sure enough there was a post about the This Day in History gadget spitting out a redirect. Here is the posting in the groups, great job guys! The trick to removing this gadget tho

Because I'm all helpful like that. Now these links apply mostly to me as someone looking for rock/metal shows, but most of these Richmond venues offer a variety of shows ranging from music, to comedy, to wrestling, and everything in between. Plug O Week!!1

Yeah, I've posted LOLCats before, but Jessi sent me something yesterday that had me literally in tears for hours. It's the lolinator and what that does is turns your website into an epic fail full of lolcats and everything that's terrible about them too. You've been warned, some sites can go from pretty boring to freaking hilarious. Enjoy! Here's my Tumblr on LOLinator!

Epic LULZ

My feeds over the past two weeks have been flooded about posts related to protests being held worldwide against The Church of Scientology by a group that calls themselves Anonymous. Sunday, thousands of people showed up and picketed their churches. This is a victory for free speech, expression, and the power of the internet. Way to go, Anonymous. I was cracking up at this video shot at the London protest. There's nothing like getting Rickroll'd! I don't ever want to be Rickroll'd.

Ozzfest Line Up (so far, maybe)

These are mostly rumors, but soon I'm sure I'll be posting this year's Ozzfest line up. I'm really hoping they play in a venue in this state this year. Last year was the first year not going and it was a definite void. This is a pretty interesting line up. STP is not a metal band, but they will draw a huge crowd. Filter reuniting kind of gives things a 90's nu metal feel to it. This should be interesting as it develops: OZZY OSBOURNE STONE TEMPLE PILOTS SERJ TANKIAN KILLSWITCH ENGAGE CAVALERA CONSPIRACY BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE FILTER THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME TESTAMENT FAIR TO MIDLAND …more rumors TBA

Sunday Afternoons

This is usually the time of day where I start to get things organized for another week at work. My desk is eagerly waiting for me to return, I'm sure. I just know that I need a vacation and badly. Janine and I are going to plan all of this out this week to see where we're going this year. As always, I still want to go to Vegas again, but I'll settle for Atlantic City, or another long, relaxing weekend at the beach. I'm just not sure where I want to go yet or when. I'm sure my other desk is waiting for me too. Well this desk can wait! My mind is right here on the beach again..

Happy Number Three

Janine and I went to her Mom's place last night to celebrate Keeper's third birthday. Everyone had a good time, there was good food, and wall to wall family. I think Keeper had a good time too. He got a lot of presents from everyone. We got him a Spiderman table and chairs and that was pretty much the theme for the whole night. Everything was Spiderman. Even the cake which I'll post later on. Happy Birthday, Keeper. I just hope he helps us eat the ton of leftovers that's in our fridge!

New England Embarassment

After watching tomorrow's devastating Patriots win, I thought I'd post a reminder of what could have been by showing highlights of the last time the Pats got their collective asses kicked in the Super Bowl. Oh, what could have been...

Oh, no. I dropped my nuts! Janine and Keeper watching Nick TV. Also showing us how to use a computer. I did mention he's two, right? It's Spike! I'll fatten her up yet!

Being Sociable

This is turning out to be an event packed weekend. Tonight after Janine gets off work, we're going to her Mom's to celebrate her sister and nephew's birthdays. I have a feeling we're pretty close to celebrating another birthday too because she is ready, really ready to have her second boy any day now. Tomorrow after Janine gets off work, we're heading to Kelly's house to watch the Super Bowl. That should be a lot of fun mostly because of the copious amounts of alcohol, munchies, and crazy, fun loving people that will be there. I don't think I'll be paying too much attention to the game since it'll pretty much be over 7 minutes into the game, but it'll still be a lot of fun to hang out. Good times all around.
