SouthPark Me 2007

Image
As the year winds down, I figured since it's kind of becoming a yearly tradition, here's the latest self portrait of me done in the style of South Park . I am adorable!

Bad Things in Threes

Image
I think most of us have heard that expression, "Bad things always come in threes." I remember tragedy would always strike like that. This has been a very weird news day, and I just felt I should try to recap for the sake of remembering days like this. The day started as you can see from my last post with the announcement of Kevin DuBrow's passing in his Vegas home. I also found out that Redskins safety, Sean Taylor is in critical condition after being shot outside his Florida home. As much as I decry the Redskins as a poor excuse for a football team, I was touched to see everyone coming together in prayer and support for Sean. My thoughts go out to him too and I hope he recovers quickly. Reading around on the news wire I see that Joran Van Der Sloot is still behind bars under suspicion for manslaughter in the case of missing teen Natalee Holloway. I'm sure this is not news to most people, but it looks like there might be a break in this case and we might discover that

Sad Metal Monday

I was just debating on who to put in for Metal Monday when I found out that the lead singer for Quiet Riot, Kevin DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home this morning. So in tribute to a ground breaking band, (despite my opinions on them breaking ground by doing covers), this Metal Monday is dedicated to his memory. RIP.

Mike's Clicks

Yeah, everyone does this to the point where even cliche becomes cliche. I'm going to start plugging some sites that I visit. I also know I did this before. I would post a site and ask people to go check it out. I'm adding a twist though. I'll post a blog that I frequent and I'll post one of these "Web 2.0" sites that people can find helpful. In this Christmas season, I'm often asked, "What do you want?" I usually just go blank and ask for cash, or I used to refer people to my Google Shopping account. I've given up on that site, as has Google, so I went out and found Wishlistr . This is a free site that allows people to link up people to their friend's wish list. Now all anyone has to do is click on my wishlistr feed and they have instant access to my heart's desires. I have items ranging from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. As I always say, though, it's not the gift, it's the thought. I just like getting a lot of thou

When Mikey Gets Blue

I haven't really sat down over the past few months to really take inventory on my life. Sometimes when I do, I get blue, down in the dumps, sad even over the things that I've failed to accomplish in this life. We all strive for some greatness and feeling of accomplishment. We even set goals in our youth to strive and reach for that success. Sometimes all we're left with are shattered dreams and promises broken to one's self. We as an intelligent species, however, tend not to let those things get us down. The goals that we set as a child are always altered by the reality of this world and becoming an adult and making decisions that leave us out of range of those goals. We all imagine this white picket fence, 2.5 kids, a loving spouse, a family pet, a mortgage, and two car payments. Sometimes we get just that. We get everything we can ever dream of and feel empty still. Some of us exceed those goals and find fame and wealth. All too often those people become so shallow an

Thankfulness

Image
This time of year I sit back to reflect on just how freaking lucky I am. I mean I try to be a grateful person. I always look at the good in my life when life hands me lemons. I'm always trying to see the bright side of things, even though I come across negatively. I have always wanted to be an optimistic person. I'm always thankful for the basic, simple things in life. I have a nice roof over my head. I have an insanely generous and wonderful family, I have a great job, good friends, but most of all I have a wonderful woman in my life. I know I can't say enough how good you've been to me, Janine. First, I want to thank you this year. Thanks for putting up with me. I know I can be a pain in the behind. You've been very patient with me in many ways and I just want to say, thank you. You mean the world to me. I want to also express my gratitude to my parents. I've had their ear at any time this year and they've given me some really solid advice. Over the years

I Did Not Forget

Metal Monday this week features a live clip from Slayer at Download Festival in London back in 2005 (I think). The crowds at that show are always massive and amazing. I'll highlight some live footage from other big festivals too, like Wacken Open Air, etc. This is Slayer's signature song and when I saw them live a song that just made their fans go completely nuts. Reigning Blood. Everyone has heard and knows this famous riff from master axeman, Kerry King.

Lazy Saturday

I've been up for quite a while now. Janine had to open today. I decided to get up and play Super Mario Galaxy. Janine got it for me the other night and it's a pretty fun game! I could never thank her enough. She's been so good to me these past couple weeks buying dinner, the game, taking care of me when I was sick, even laughing at my jokes, which makes me feel good. Here's a shot of her playing Super Mario World. This Mario game is pretty difficult, but there hasn't been any real challenges to the game yet. The trick is th at I'm still trying to figure out how to play games with the wiimote and with the nunchuk. I'm used to pressing buttons and only moving to partake in snacks and to drink sodas (which is what I'm also doing today, as it appears). The other issue lately is that I'm using a wireless sensor and it's been crapping out on me. I'll lose the sync and have to go turn the sensor off and back on again for the pointer to work. Today

Go Packers! 9-1 would be just..amazing! Man that game against the Cowboys next week is going to be a good one!!

Slowly Getting Back in the Saddle

The past two days have been nothing short of a digestive nightmare for me. As you know, last week, the stomach flu hit this household. I was slightly affected by the bug, but for the most part pulled through. I got it in earnest yesterday making me extremely nauseous and dizzy and giving me all kinds of stomach problems that I just don't care to share with any reading audience. I think the past two hours I've felt I've conquered this dreaded plague and I'm ready to get back with my life again. I had abstained from wine, from any physical activity, and mostly from any food. I had eaten one peanut butter and jelly sandwich and 3 onion rings over the past 68 hours. Good news there is that my stomach will shrink, I'll teach myself to eat much smaller and healthier portions and melt the pounds away with lots of exercise. I just gotta get my bum to the gym. I know I must be getting hungry again when I'm surfing recipe ideas tonight and see this. What do you think? OYS

Goodbye New Frontier

I have to admit I shed a tear watching the video from last night's implosion of the New Frontier Casino in Las Vegas. Janine and I spent our first big vacation there and had a really good time. They're going to build this massive high end casino and resort over the remains of that location, but the New Frontier left behind a lot of history. Elvis revitalized his career, The Supremes ended their career there, and I could almost feel Sinatra as I walked around the craps tables. Las Vegas is notorious for trying to stay modern, and I don't fault anyone for getting rid of the New Frontier, but it's definately sad to see a place that meant a lot to our modern history and to Janine and I go up in smoke.

Football Stadiums Poll

Image
Sports Illustrated recently conducted a poll of 17,000 football fans to rank and give their opinions of their experiences at various football stadiums. They ranked their experience from the preformance of the team, ticket prices, the overall atmosphere, and parking accesabililty. I'm sure you've already guessed which team won hands down. Yep, Green Bay hosts religious experiences on a weekly basis during football season without fail. Even Janine wants to go check out the magic at Lambeau. Next year we are definately going to check 'em out! Here's a list of the other teams. For those who are wondering, the Redskins, #28. 1. Packers - Lambeau Field 2. Steelers - Heinz Field 3. Browns - Cleveland Browns Stadium 4. Lions - Ford Field 5. Ravens - M&T Bank Stadium 6. Eagles - Lincoln Financial Field 7. Seahawks - QWEST Field 8. Colts - RCA Dome 9. Titans - LP Field 10. Panthers - Bank of Amer. Stadium 11. Patriots - Gillette Stadium 12. Jaguars - Municipal Stadium 13. B

Did I Mention?

Giddy Metal Monday

I've been just giddy all day with my Green Bay Packers winning yet another game, not to mention a big conference game. I figured for Metal Monday I would play something appropriate. I never considered and I know many don't consider Queen to be a metal band, but they have been probably one of the biggest and most influential bands in Rock and in music. Freddie Mercury died 16 years ago this month. I'm always sad when I think about his passing selfishly because I never got to see Queen in all it's glory. I give you the biggest "I'm about to kick your ass" anthems in music. Hopefully soon, I'll be playing another classic Queen song. Hopefully in January...you know, after the Super Bowl. Something about being champions!

The Big Quarantine of 07

This is not an ideal way to spend the day off. Fighting off the stomach flu. I've been pretty lucky so far, but everyone else in the house has been stricken with all the classic symptoms of viral gastroenteritis. I know I'll probably have it by the end of the weekend. I'm sure I'll be dealing with the almost endless battle where just a sip of 7 Up can mean putting myself into dry heave jeopardy. The beverage of choice may not be albarino, it may be a 2007 Pepto vintage.

Pretty Lucky

I've been going out with Janine now for 19 months now. That time has really flown! Today is her birthday. I wanted to publicly wish her a happy day and to shout to the world that I am indeed the luckiest guy I know. I've planned a fun evening. I'm going to make a delicious dinner for her and let her finally open her birthday presents. They are definitely a couple of unconventional birthday gifts to say the least! I look forward to her getting them though. She's been wanting them for a long, long time. I know my life's been a constant roller coaster ride, but I also know now and I'm at peace that I'm with someone who truly loves me for who I am and that's saying quite a lot. I grow closer to her every day and I love her more and more with each passing morning, and I hope more than anything we'll always continue to share our lives together. I love you, Janine! Thank you so much for making my life better. Have a wonderful birthday and an even more wonde

Lewis Show Programming Notes

Posting on my site has always been..random at best. I'm going to start putting into practice some nightly content so that there is something always going on. And it goes a little something like this: Metal Monday: I will post on the main blog a video. I won't say much about it, maybe a comment about my feelings on the song. That's about it. Tumblr Tuesdays and Thursdays: Hop over to my tumblog during the week to find extra content. There isn't going to be anything specific, but there will always be something. Flickr Friday: I will post a picture that I've uploaded into Flickr into my Pownce account. So if you don't have Pownce yet, let me know. I have several invites. As you know I will post early and often into my Twitter feed. So now there will always be content, good, bad, or otherwise, and my site will start to show some signs of life again. So please stayed tuned! Here's a little pre Monday treat!
