Talks With My Dad

Image
I should just make it a point to highlight my conversations with my Father whenever I have them. I always find out so many new and interesting things about him. Today he called and we discussed his service in the Navy specifically his service on The Intrepid. For those of you that do not know your war history, take a minute to read this history of this brave ship. The wikipedia page does a great job. I referenced this the nicknames to Dad and he got a big kick out of it. SNIP: Because of her prominent role in battle, she was nicknamed "the Fighting I", while her often ill-luck earned her the nicknames "the Evil I", "the Dry I", or "the USS Decrepid". During her service in World War Two, the Intrepid was hit several times by Kamikaze attacks, and a lot of men lost their lives, but she kept going and was very effective despite being perpetually mortally wounded, the crew went on to contribute big to the American war effort. SNIP : Her ...

I Have a Web Pick!

Ubiquity for Firefox from Aza Raskin on Vimeo . You know me, I'm a geek. I'm easily fascinated and amused by the neat and new things I can find on the web. So it's really hard to just completely blow me away. I've just seen it all before. I've seen and heard about a lot of innovation and it's always nice, but nothing ever really grabs my attention enough to blog about it anymore. Enter Ubiquity . First I have to say this is only available from the dev team at Mozilla, so you're going to need to have Firefox installed and running as your browser of choice (since I know most of you already have, you're halfway there). Ubiquity is an add on that enables you to use shortcuts and features that are already given to us by the web to mash together and make things more accessible, easier to share, and most important more fun to do. The video is worth the time invested to watch it, I highly recommend people check this out. I mean a program that can ma...

Dexter Take Three

Image
I know Dexter fans are chomping at the bit, (gotta love dark humor) for season three to begin. It starts in a month, and already the marketing campaign has begun. The hype machine is going into overdrive already and of course Janine and I are eating it up. I have to admit the marketing people for Dexter have done a great job with producing these viral campaigns. A lot of people are going to see this ad, but most will see it like this, in a blog post, or in a Twitter post.  For season two, they produced a do it yourself video that allowed people to input their names into a fake video news story. Now, they release an ad that looks like a cover of the often hip often geek Wired Magazine . The show has really hit a cult status. I hear a lot of people talking about it on the web and I'm just excited that I picked another winner. If you have not seen Dexter, and you're into the intense suspenseful, dramatic and violent stuff, then I highly, highly recommend picking up the first...

Thoughtstorming

Instead of my occasional random thoughts posts, I figured I'd try to force myself to really think about a few things and post them. The results will hopefully not be too hard to read. My thoughts on Brett Favre playing for the Jets: I think it's great that he still wants to play football and I think he may have a year or two left in him. That is exactly what I was saying this spring when he was debating his retirement in the first place! I'm not even upset that he is playing for the Jets, this actually works out nicely for me. This way I can still pull for my Packers and reign in the Peterson era and watch and enjoy some Favre at the same time. So I am pleased. My thoughts on my iPod Touch: *hug* My thoughts on the housing market: I don't have a lot of nice things to say about the whole home shopping experience, I've also learned that there's really no one but real estate agents that have a single good thing to say about the whole experience. I have le...

Posting For The Sake of Posting

My posting has really fallen off lately. Heck I've even done some posts via my mobile. So I figure I should just post and get back into the rhythm of posting again. I can't say there's anything new, it's the same story today as it has been for the past two months. The house shopping had taken several turns over the past week but ultimately things ended up where we were two weeks ago, and that's in house shopping mode. The good news is we have a couple of prospects and I'm hoping we'll be putting a contract in soon...keep us in your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. I have just been a content sponge over the past month, but have not had the creative abilities to create content or post something funny or thought provoking. I think my thoughts have drifted like most have in the blogging world. With the super ease of social networking and being able to reach a ground roots audience quickly by these means is doing a good job of limiting my ability to post s...

Manga Us

Image
I thought I'd share these. A lot of people made a manga charactor and posted it on various networks last week. Here's Janine and me.

The Agony of Defeat

I've always heard people say that house shopping is the most painful thing that they've done. I know why now...the heartbreak can be immense. We did find a house yesterday and wanted to place a bid, but before we could even say yes, the property owner accepted a bid and the place went under contract in the late evening hours. It's just not fair. We both knew right away that this house was a good thing. I just feel crushed by it all, but I'm going to take the lessons learned and continue to plug along. Treat it like a business transaction my ass. Not getting what I want hurts..it hurts a lot!

Week Two

We're just now going into the second week of house viewing with our real estate agent. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. There are so many uncertainties that one can face when taking this step. I'm looking at some more houses in the morning. I'm hoping this will help us narrow down our prospects by a lot.

Fancy a Laugh?

Narrowing Down the House Hunt

Image
Over the next couple days, Janine and I are going to be looking at two or three top quality houses. I have a feeling we'll be choosing from one of these three options. We shall see. Keep your fingers crossed that things go well tonight. That's the house that I really, really want. You cannot go wrong with a backyard fort!
