Last Weekend - Photos

Image
We had a bit of a road trip last weekend. Janine's family held a Memorial Day weekend gathering on the Northern Neck. Being from Warsaw myself, I knew this was going to be a good time. There is a family house outside of Reedville with close access to the Chesapeake Bay. The house is beautiful and there are a lot of houses over there for sale reasonably. I have a feeling Janine and I are going to be looking into vacation houses as we get our current house paid for. What a great way to get away from it all! I can not say enough about how we have some of the most beautiful real estate in the country right here.  I wanted to drop a couple photos here. New Orleans: Photo Post

Image
The view of New Orleans from the sky. The city is rich in history be it French, Spanish, Creole, American. New Orleans is probably one of the more photogenic towns I've seen. The culture and vivid colors came as advertised. A city where tragedy is ingrained in its DNA. They know and celebrate life and even death. This is truly a unique place!

Summer = Mobile Photography

Many of us have stopped carrying cameras with us anymore. With pretty decent cameras on our smart phones, the need just isn't there anymore, not for basic point and shoot photography. While I am no major enthusiast, I do suggest that everyone have a basic photo app with filters and a decent photo editor. Blackberry has Photo Editor and others, Windows Phone 7 has Thumba and others, and of course iPhone has Instagram which has achieved unimaginable hype. There are many good apps out there for every platform. I did a post before actually that highlights some great apps  here . Being an avid Android user, here's what I use: Picplz and Posterous for social networks, PicSay Pro for photo editing and Retro Camera + for on the spot filtered photography.  What does that mean you ask? Here are a few shots I took in the back yard using different camera types with the Retro Camera app. You can see the differences in colors, borders, etc. This comes in handy on the go when ...

Where have I been you ask? I've been working...at work. And I've been working...at home (with a lot of help).

Overwhelmingly Houred Out

My inbox was stacked pretty high today! Actually we're doing some necessary hardware upgrades. A run on milk? There must be flurries a'coming! This slow cooker full of pulled pork barbecue will get me through! The welcoming party did not have to get up. Must be tough...

Lights, Camera, Android Camera Apps

I wanted to quickly share the camera apps that I use on my phone. iPhone doesn't get to have all the fun with their great Flickr and Instagram apps. There are a few on our platform too which are fun and easy to use. FxCamera for Android on AppBrain FX Camera has several layering options with pictures. For example you can use the Polaroid or fish eye effects. It's a very basic app that does all of this with pretty decent efficiency. Camera 360 for Android on AppBrain Camera 360 works the same way that FX Camera works. It has a few more unique effects and the pro version provides more. Retro Camera for Android on AppBrain Retro Camera has 4 cool effects but what makes this app stand out is that the effects are accessed via 4 cameras. I used this for my Halloween post. This also has widget support, and out of all of these camera apps, I have the most fun using this one. picplz for Android on AppBrain Picplz has quickly become a favorite of mine. This app mos...

Hustling and Bustling

Image
It's that time for everything to run together into a haze. Apparently I'm not the only one... I did get an early present though from Google to help me decompress. (More on that later) The beautiful sunrise this morning also helped me un-haze. I am so unbelievably, unimaginably lucky.

I successfully made a path to the trash can... And we're able to get away if the leaves do win this year.

Obligatory Beach Pix Post

Image
Base camp last weekend. Got plenty sun and beach on Saturday. Not so much for Sunday. The rest of the weekend washed out. So I turned Janine loose on the Myrtle Beach Home Goods. The rain did not dampen our plans to relax. Relax we did.

Taking a Request

Janine suggested I share and post about her own personal cake disaster. So this was her idea, and no attempt on my part to tease. The post will speak for itself. She's still the best ever and this disclaimer should keep me from getting glares, pokes, or even food throwing. She made an awesome cake yesterday. I'm just now reminded so after this post, I'm going to sneak a piece. She reminded me of the last cake she made a while back. The saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, but this picture is worth about eight large pieces of cake. She had basically just layered and iced the cake when I heard a frantic call for help from the kitchen. I sprang into action only to find the cake slowly starting to lean and fall apart. We both ended up holding portions of the cake trying to keep it all in one piece. One of us had to break away long enough to grab plates to catch this now crumbling dessert. As one can see, it ended up in a few large pieces and to this day I'm...

Around and Around

Image
Now that the blizzards are over, it's time for a picture post.    We've been busy. A fresh coat of paint makes everything new!   Janine even modded a bookshelf into an entertainment center.   The living room even has crown molding now. We're very happy with it.
