Raaaandom!

With the new blog and the new house coming up, my thoughts have been pretty narrow, but I think it's time for some randomnes! Being dressed up like a pirate in a resturant and selling fish to tourists dosen't sound like such a bad career choice sometimes. The gas guarantee commercials from Jeep are annoying as hell! I see a 42 inch LCD in my future, and a lot more drooling. Is it a part of old age to loose control of bodily functions? I've been talking about drooling lately. Anyday now I'm hoping to win the mega millions. I might want to start playing. How can homeowners afford property taxes? I mean really? That's a lot of money that I'm going to give the state just to throw away. Speaking of throwing away money, might I say that Gov Kaine has been a tremendous failure? To watch a state government receive hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes and then LOSE it all and then have the audacity to ask for more just makes my skin crawl. We'll be saying goodbye...

House Talk and Pownce Follies

Image
Isn't it pretty? Janine and I have been quietly house hunting for a while and this one has really caught our attention. It's too early to get my hopes up too far, but I wanted to at least share a basic shot of the house. Janine snapped this last week when she went to look at it. We're in the process of talking to a mortgage lender and buying agent to get this process rolling. I know I can't wait to have a place just like this. I drempt last night I was putting up a clothes hanger outside to air out my laundry. It's going to be so freaking cool! ------------------------------------ In tech junk, for those who needed another reason to join Pownce: To discuss your sneezing style.

Google's Android

Image
During my lunch, I went through my feeds and saw a live demo of Google's upcoming mobile operating system, Android. Talk about a smart phone! This is going to really give Apple a run for their money. No way are they going to be able to corner the smart phone market with competition like this. Click to watch the demo videos. Trust me, it'll be worth your while. Geek warning: I drooled. I really drooled.

Tell Me Something I Don't Know

Image
We've all heard that phrase, especially when espousing something obvious. I have been called Captain Obvious on numerous occasions, so now I want people to tell ME something that I don't know. Yes I am soliciting comments. It really can be about anything, I just need to test a new commenting system on my blog. So tell me about the condition of your car, the amount of change in your pocket, how many gray hairs have grown while reading this post, anything you want. I'd really appreciate it. If anything, do it out of pity. Pity for the guy with the dino mask in the gift shop wearing a Tool t shirt.

Calling out All Alien Haters

Image
Janine and I went to see a darn good movie yesterday. A darn good movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I will agree with critics that the movie is great for Indy fans, but it's pretty much the same kind of film for anyone else. But that's not why I'm posting. I'm posting because of statements involving how far fetched this movie was especially as it involved people from another planet. We all know that Spielberg loves his aliens and this movie now completes the Spielberg alien collection, but I can't for the life of me understand the exasperation with this movie! Let's recap the first three Jones movies, shall we? The first movie, Indy is drawn into an international affair involving an ark created by Moses to house the 10 Commandments, the rod of Aaron and other artifacts (my theological background shines when it comes to these things). The movie is packed with action in which the ark is found by Indy, captured by the Nazis, retaken by Indy...

Geeking Out With..Weezer?

This is really funny...to those that know their web celebrities...which..I know...some.

The iPod and Me

So I've had the iPod Touch for over a month now and I'm still blown away by it. I know I talked about this a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to share a few things that I enjoy about this device and some of the things that fall short about it. First of all, I am so thankful to have received such a freaking cool gift! I enjoy it everyday and with my other iPod, I have everything I need in my pockets! So why am I still attached to this thing at the hip? The screen is big and beautiful. I have movies, music videos, and podcasts loaded just as I do on my other iPod. I have a handful of songs, and I have my pictures loaded, just like my iPod. The difference maker is the wireless internet. Now I can watch streamming programming. This morning I was on Revision 3 and watching their lineup. I didn't have to download a single podcast, sync it up, and go back to bed. I just got up, connected, and watched. So, are there any worthwhile mobile sites yet? A lot of sites have created a ...

Unboxing The New Blog!

Wow, I have really made some radical changes to my blog! There are two big differences that users will see from this point forward. The first and obvious change is the template. Ultimately I will have a really clean, shiny Wordpress theme installed and running, but in the meantime, I crafted this page for Blogger (with a lot of help). The second change is the text. I'm not going to have multicolored texts. I thought I was being original by making my site all "Googley-fied", but it didn't really accomplish anything at all. I am becoming an insane minimalist and as such I need a minimal blog. I'm excited about the changes. I really need to redo a bunch of things, but for now, it's functional. Please let me know what you think. I'm sure the world is just as enthused as I am.

Big Update Coming

The blog may become unreachable soon. Please subscribe and the RSS goodness will still be there. I've been working on a Wordpress theme for some time and I may be rolling it out soon! I'm so excited!

Web 2.0 Invites

I have several invites for Jaiku and Socialthing. Leave a comment if you'd like an invite or email thelewisshow (at) gmail (dot) com. Also if you want to get in to Ping.fm, then just use the beta code "pingsauce" and you should be able to set up an account.

Two Years This Month

Image
(picture: Janine and I in Vegas unwinding from our flight) I've always looked forward to May. Spring is in full swing, people are transitioning to summer, May sweeps, birthdays, but for the past two years I've really looked forward to May. This is my second anniversary with Janine. I promised that I would always make this time special and this year I did muck this up and got my priorities backwards. I am making up for it tonight, however. We are going to try out Kuba Kuba in Carytown, maybe catch a late movie, and I have another surprise coming on Friday for her. So don't tell her anything yet! I have been, not so secretly also been planning a June trip to DC with Janine to see the town and catch some history and some museums. Mostly I just want to hop on a train again. At any rate, Janine, Happy Anniversary. You are so special and important and I need you so much. Thank you for loving me and for understanding me. I know it's not easy!

Humility, Thy Name is Pownce

Image
So I think I've posted about being on Pownce a bazillion times already. Pownce is a social network designed for micro blogging and file/link sharing. I enjoy the service because I enjoy the members in my community. I try to contribute as much as I can, but there are a lot of smart people there, so I either go to entertain or to share my world with others. Last week I posted about a funny game we used to play on another message board. Basically I invited everyone to do a Google Image search of their blog and post the first image that came up. As a result of my post, I was named as the Featured Powncer on this week's Powncecast . That's so amazing. I want to shy away when I get attention like this! But I'm very much honored and thought I'd share my appreciation with everyone. What is Powncecast? They have neat bios on their site here . The show consists of Carolyn Sonnek, Kevin Belton, and Tim Wilsie. They recap the events on Pownce and interview the developers w...

Part Deux as They Say

Image
Wye Island is a very peaceful place, for sure. I gotta admit for point and shoot, this Cannon camera kicks sometimes! The Bridal party. Hello, ladies! The groomsmen, groom, and the Pastor. Good choice guys on not wearing bowties. The reception area one more time. Couldn't ask for a better day!

Shots From Last Weekend pt 1

Image
Last weekend took us to Wye Island, Maryland for a wedding. Here are some shots. I promise to post more later. The island and the ceremony were both beautiful! The diva and the guy that can't aim a camera arrive! How can I miss my own face? Yes, pretty. I know. Janine takes good pics. The weather was perfect too! The reception area. I know that was a LOT of work! The bride and groom. Steven and Amy I have magical put twin babies to sleep powers. The twins are adorable. Kaleb, the oldest was wound up the whole time. Always good to see the basketball team my brother is making.

New NIN Release - Free Download

Image
Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails keep on putting the nail in the coffin of the record industry. This time with their latest release which they released a free download for their fans. Their only catch, is to catch them in a town near you. It's a fair deal. They put up a great show! Here's the link for the new CD. I am really enjoying it thus far!

Holy Craptacular, Batman!

New trailer. I could not resist.

Plugging and Plugging

Image
In relation to my new shiny mobile device, I wanted to plug some sites this week that helps me get those noisy social networks into one place. With the explosion of Twitter, Pownce, Facebook, and others, there has become an increasing need to pull everything into one place. I'm going to review and plug three services that help me do just that. Friendfeed was created by former Google employees who have a single desire to reign their feeds and turn it into one big feed. That feed can then create it's own social interaction with other Friendfeed users. This doesn't only benefit people that have accounts in multiple services, but it can work as a feed reader just by creating an "Imaginary Friend", and import your own feeds from friends, or from any other RSS feed to create something that gives Google Reader a run for its money. I'm partial to the feeds, the ability to reply to Twitter messages, and the flexibility to keep up with just the things that I want to k...

Geek Overloadness

Image
So I've had my shiny new iPod Touch for a week and I wanted to take a minute to recap this week and talk about how fun and addictive this little device can be. I had a so-so experience with Best Buy recently. My iPod Classic, which I discussed previously, died on me. The hard drive crashed leaving me with a lot of lost files. Lesson learned. I know better now. I took the iPod to Best Buy in Short Pump because it was under a 3 year warrenty. It really came in handy because the Apple warrenty is only unless you buy more from them direct. The Geek Squad rep agreed to swap out the hard drives and get me my new iPod in 5 days. 6 1/2 days later, I got an automated message stating that my order was received at Best Buy. I had agreed with the GS rep that I wanted to pick up my iPod at the Hull Street store because it was closer to home and Janine and I are usually in that neck of the woods most nights anyways. So I get to the Hull Street store to pick up my iPod. The Customer Service lady ...
